How to seal the sides and top of a garage door
The garage door side seal is different from the bottom seal. Think of it this way: A garage door frame only covers three quarters of the door. The bottom of the door seals against the concrete floor, not against the jamb like the sides and top, so we'll cover the bottom separately.
A properly sealed garage door starts at the sides and top. The area where the garage door meets the weather fades constantly every time you open and close the garage. It is therefore not surprising that new stripping has to be fitted from time to time.
If you have found gaps in the sides of your garage door, you must first remove the old seal to replace it. There will likely be some nails that you need to remove. You may also need to use a knife to remove some of the rubber glue or caulk that was used to support the nails/screws. After removing, clean the area of glue and dirt so you have a clean surface to work with.
Garage Door Seal Installation (Door Sides)
There are different types of new seals and seals used to cover the sides of a garage door. Consider foam tape with an adhesive on the peel-off edge (no glue, nails, or screws required) to seal a garage door with only minor air leaks. There's more than one wayseal a garage door.

How to replace the caulking on the side of your garage door
1. Measure and cut
Measure and cut the length you need for this garage door seal. A miter saw works great if you have access to one. If not, cut the stamp with scissors and stop shaping the vinyl with a handsaw.
2. Determine the correct location
Gently close the garage door, holding the caulk in place to ensure it seals tightly to the garage door but the seal remains flexible as you move it up and down.
3. Assembly and fastening of the seal
Apply a thin layer of glue, e.g. B. Sealant, onto the back of the sealant and snap into place. Use small nails to securely attach it to the door frame. The nails should be spaced 12 to 16 inches apart and less than 3 inches from the sealing edge of the gasket to avoid cracking.
4. Duplicate on both sides
Obviously it takes two sides to seal a garage door. When you have finished one side, you can work on the gaskets on the other side in the same way: remove, clean, measure, cut and assemble. We hope you find these wire stripping kits easy to install.
5. Acknowledge your success
After you've sealed a garage door on both sides, it's a good idea to lift the door up and down to ensure a successful installation. Good looking? Next, let's make sure we fill in any gaps that aren't sealed at the top of the door.
Installing a Garage Door Seal (Door Top)
Installing a garage door seal on the top is pretty much the same as installing it on the side. The top gasket will likely be the same material we used on the side. For minor leaks, re-measure the small cracks where air is leaking in and install a foam tap to seal the top of the door frame.
Assuming the garage door needs a little more work, consider using the same vinyl top coat we discussed above to seal the top of the garage door as well. This ensures a good seal and another easy installation to cover any openings that allow air and moisture to enter the garage.
Right now you have the following process. Just to be sure, strip old, clean surface, measure and cut new grout, and attach with nails and grout. If you want to use screws instead of nails, that's fine too.
After the top installation is complete, check the new seals by opening/closing the garage door again.

How to seal the bottom of the garage door
The bottom garage door seal is a whole different beast than the top and side seals. In this case, there is no doorstop to mount the seal. It doesn't matter if you have a metal or wood garage door, the bottom garage door seal mounts directly to the door itself.
There are also universal stripping kits for sealing a garage door from below, which is very helpful. All you need to do is measure the length of your garage door to ensure you get the correct set. They are available in all common garage door sizes.
